For years, Jenny De la Torre wished to set up a foundation that would support the homeless people of Berlin. In 2002, she was awarded the ′Golden Hen′ media prize for charity. The prize money, provided by the Association of Eastern German Savings and Giro Banks, Ostdeutscher Sparkassen und Giroverband, together with innumerable donations allowed her to establish the Jenny De la Torre Foundation in Berlin in December 2002.
It is a charitable foundation and primarily aims to fund the establishment of a health centre for the homeless.
The Jenny De la Torre Foundation is a member of the national association of German foundations.
